What treatments can I expect?
Dr. Meyers was trained in both cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) and psychodynamic therapy. He employs a balanced approach to each individual based upon need. Evidence-based psychological practice is an important key to successful treatment. Treatments vary based upon age, developmental level, diagnosis and need.
Your treatment may employ the use of individual, family, couples or group therapy or a combination of these therapies. For children and some adolescents, Dr. Meyers may also have a psychologist, social worker or other mental health professional go to your home for additional support.
Will I be receiving medications?
Dr. Meyers is a licensed New York psychologist. This license does not include prescription privileges (a psychiatrist can prescribe medications as can any other licensed MD). Dr. Meyers is familiar with medications used for the various difficulties suffered by patients and will review the medications that you may have been prescribed to help inform your treatment and he may contact your prescribing doctor to discuss your matter.
What does it mean to be placed on the Waiting List?
This is a busy practice and many people are trying to get an appointment to see and be treated by Dr. Meyers. He can only treat a set number of patients at a time. Being placed on the waiting list is not an expression of opinion by Dr. Meyers regarding the nature or severity of your issue.
If you are on the waiting list for individual therapy, it means that there are no available openings at this time in Dr. Meyers schedule or there are no available openings on the days and times you have selected.
If you are on the waiting list for a group or program it is most likely because there are no available spaces in the currently running group or program or that group and program are not running at this time. You can check with the office for start and end dates of groups and programs.
How long do I have to be on the Waiting List?
It depends upon availability. When a session time, group or program space become available you will be notified by this office. You can also check periodically for an estimate of availability.
If you are on the waiting list but need immediate assistance, please ask for a referral to another mental health care provider.
In all cases, if you feel that your situation is one in which you fear you will do harm to yourself or others, please go immediately to a local hospital or call 911 for assistance.
